Prom. So what's the big deal? Is all the fuss really worth it? In a word, YES! There aren't dozens of movies made lamenting missing prom because no one cares. While there are many excuses you can use to justify not going, here are a few reasons we believe you should attend.
Never Been Kissed
1. Great reason to buy an expensive dress: Most girls only get to splurge on a fancy dress for their wedding. Unless you attend paegents, prom is a great reason to buy an amazing dress.
2. Formal pictures: When was the last time you had a formal portrait made (not in pajamas with Santa)? You'll be dressed to kill and surrounded by friends. Embrace your inner super model and get out there.

3. The last formal dance: Unless you are in a sorority, the prom will be your last chance to attend a formal dance. If you do attend a sorority, prom will be good practice for the dances to come.
4. You will miss out: Everyone will be talking about what happened Monday morning. You won't know who danced with whom or who won best dressed if you don't attend.
5. Regret not going: You will always regret not going. Face it - hundreds of movies are based on the regret of missing prom. Do you want to be able to identify with all of them?

6. Lenient parents: This will be the one night your parent's extend your curfew and let you bend the rules. Enjoy staying out a little later with your friends.
7. Your boyfriend will be dressed up: Have you ever seen your boyfriend all decked out with his hair cut, clean shaven and in a a tuxedo? You won't regret this rare opportunity.
8. The memories: You will have memories of prom to last the rest of your life. Good, bad or ugly you won't regret the stories you collect while attending your prom.

From the date, to the dress, to the shoes, and the accessories, prom has consumed your life since the date was revealed. Now that it's over, what do you do with all those pretty clothes that you likely won't have many opportunities to wear again?
The reality is, every school has a prom, but not every student is financially secure enough to be able to attend.
Luckily, several organizations have come up with a few “pay it forward ideas”:
DonateMyDress.org is the first national campaign designed to encourage girls around the country to donate their prom and special occasion dresses to those who cannot afford them for prom, sweet 16, quinceañera or formals. The site features a directory of local dress drive organizations across the U.S. that will enable girls to easily find out where in their local markets they can donate or receive a dress. In addition, DonateMyDress.org contains information on upcoming events and special promotions, a photo gallery of real girls donating and receiving dresses, as well as links to content on prom and quinceañera planning, hair and makeup tips, and other worthy causes.

Fairy Godmothers, Inc. mission is to help provide a special high school prom experience for qualified high school girls whose financial situations are such as otherwise would preclude their ability to attend their prom by providing them prom gowns, shoes, and similar accessories which have been donated to the organization. They provide prom gowns that have been donated to the organization. If you wish to donate a gown, please make sure the gown is less than five years old, dry cleaned, and in great condition. Don't overdo embellishments:
Adding a little bit of sparkle with body glitter, sparkly eye shadow, and the perfect jewelry is a must. However, any and all of these can easily be overdone and your photos will prove it. Too much bling will call attention to you in a negative way and upstage your look for prom.
Don't wear uncomfortable shoes:
Prom is a dance! And even if you don't plan on hitting the floor all night long, it will definitely distract from your look if you have to kick your shoes off after 30 minutes. Choose stylish, yet comfortable shoes so you'll look complete all evening. Try breaking them in before prom night by wearing them around the house and scuffing them up on your driveway to avoid slipping.
Don't get a spray tan or facial right before the big night:
This advice likely goes without saying...Spray tans look best after a few showers to tone them down. Most dresses look better with natural looking skin tones rather than orange. Spray tans are a great way to look sun-kissed without exposing your skin to harmful UV rays, but moderation is best about a week out.
The same is true for facials. While facials will rid your complexion of impurities and create a healthy glow, they can often cause breakouts before the benefits are realized. A week and half before prom is an optimal time to treat your skin to some r and r.
Don't spend a fortune on your dress:
Prom is a big deal, especially if it's your Senior Prom. But, you'll likely attend several more formal functions in college, and then plan a wedding someday. This means there will be lots of opportunity to buy formalwear, so don't blow the budget on a dress you'll probably not have the opportunity to wear again.
Don't wear anything too revealing:
Although prom is a right of passage you've been waiting for through most of your teenage years, as a promgoer you are still a minor and ought to dress like one. Plunging necklines and skirts that cling like second skin will take away from the youthful enjoyment that prom should be. Not to mention, it may give your parents a coronary as you meet your date at the door!
So, do yourself a favor, and create prom photos that you'll be proud to have follow you through life.

The after-prom party is just as essential as the prom itself, and is often where many students get into trouble. A big trend for 2014 is the school hosting the after party as well as the prom. These larger than life events are on par with graduation lock ins schools have been hosting for years. To entice all the prom-goers into showing up, the entertainment had better be appealing. The more variety your event has, the broader its appeal will be. Think big and you could throw a party that’s bigger than prom itself!
Sketch Comedy Group or Improv Troupe: Your after prom party could get laughs like Saturday Night Live or MAD TV. Contact comedy clubs, improv theaters or a nearby college. If comedy acts perform regularly in local theaters, they’re often available for private parties.
Game Show: Hire a host to emcee a popular game show tailored to your high school. It could be Couples Trivia Challenge (quiz couples or best friends to see who knows each other best), The Amazing Race, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, or any version of a popular game show. A little competition, an engaging emcee and enticing prices could make your after prom party a smash.

Prom season is interesting…Some students wait their entire life to rent and enjoy limousine service, whereas others simply want a way to get there and another group looks for the most interesting way to reach the event. Check out these great ideas for transportation to the main event.
Super Stretch Limousines: By far, stretch and super stretch limousines are the most common form of prom transportation. Ranging from 6-8 passenger models, these vehicles are popular with area students. Look for package rates and know that most area limo companies will have a 6 hour minimum on rentals during peak season.
Executive Shuttle NetworkParty Buses: Looking for a way to transport more than 8 passengers in one vehicle? Consider a party bus! These bigger vehicles are basically limo buses. On the small end of the scale are 14 passenger models and they go up in size. Hourly minimums are longer, supply is extremely limited so you’ll want to book early (which can be hard when you’re trying to nail down a group of passengers).
Executive Shuttle NetworkYour Own Car: Some students do opt to drive themselves to prom. Pros? You can leave whenever you want and at most, you are paying for gas. Con? You have to drive yourself.
Rent An Exotic Ride: You’ll probably need an adult to back the rental (financially, legally and more) Again, see the cons of “your own car” (as more than likely, you rent an exotic ride, you’re not looking for someone else to drive you).

No matter how you decide to arrive at your prom, here are a few things to consider:
- Decide early – that way if you need to reserve a vehicle, you have some options.
- Make sure everyone is on board with the decision
- Get pictures – you will treasure them later in life
- If you drive, put down the phone and put 100% concentration into driving – you owe it to yourself and fellow motorists

A boutonniere is a collection of one or two small flowers pinned to the left lapel of a tuxedo or suit.
There are men who will dismiss the boutonniere as feminine. Nothing could be further from the truth. Great noblemen, warriors, and poets have worn flowers for over a thousand years. Soldiers headed to war have proudly worn flowers on their chests. In the United States every January, two of college football’s best teams square off wearing roses on their uniforms. The winners of our greatest athletic events are congratulated with bouquets of flowers. We even honor our fallen with poppies and other blooms.
Most men will only wear a boutonniere on special occasions like prom, anniversaries or a wedding. It is normally worn on the left lapel of a suit, sport jacket, blazer or overcoat. The boutonniere is always attached above a man’s heart, and it should be worn in the lapel’s button-hole.
Color choice of the boutonniere is important. Flowers should match the general color scheme of the wedding. Traditionally for proms, the woman purchases the boutonniere for her date. This allows her to select colors appropriate to her dress. When in doubt, a boutonniere made with a white rose, can usually go with virtually any other color, or any tuxedo style the man chooses.
When wearing a boutonniere you should also consider:
- Have no fear: Do not be afraid to be an individual. Wear a boutonniere because you want to.
- Size Matters: If you’re a small man, wear small flowers. If you’re a large man, consider something that is more befitting your size.
- Ladies First: A boutonniere is a single flower or a small collection of tiny blooms; never wear something unwieldy.
PROM TRENDS FOR GIRLS 2014

Prom 2014 is here! Major trends this year include some carryover from last year and some brand new ideas. Have fun deciding which will make your list. Here are a few of our favorites.
Color: Neutrals and metallics are big! Nudes, beiges, and whites are among the most popular prom dress colors for Prom 2014. This is great because the dress allows you to be the focal point rather than the dress itself. Metallics are another more glam option to take center stage. If you want to shine but aren't into super girly sequins & add-ons, try metallics.
Hemlines: The sky is the limit for skirt length this year. Traditional long gowns are abundant alongside shorter dresses as well. The asymmetrical high/low hemline is back also. Bottom line, try them all before making a decision, and go with what you feel best in.
Vintage: Whether you've found an actual vintage dress or purchased a new take on an old look, going vintage for prom is definitely hot this year. Channel old Hollywood glam to feel like a star on prom night. Continue the vintage feel with your hairstyle and make up choices to complete the look.

It's that time of year again...Prom season 2014 is upon us, and coeds are coming up with more and more creative ways to secure a date for this rite of passage. Their calling it Promposals nowadays, and these antics include but are not limited to popping the question with food, using the front yard as an artists canvas, or good, old fashioned public displays of affection/humiliation (depending on who you ask).
Food
When sharing a meal with an intended prom date, whether a hopeful guy or gal is sitting across the table or sent a surprise delivery, food can be used in many ways. Some have enlisted the help of sushi chefs to spell out “Prom?” in his/her favorite roll. While others have gifted a romantic box of chocolates or heart-shaped pizzas with notes enclosed asking for a date.
Front Yard Art
Similar to food messages, some Promposals are created by spelling out the question in the front yard of their sweethearts with things like candles, sidewalk chalk on the driveway, or even sporting equipment representing a favorite hobby. Some hopefuls wait in the yard for their answer, while others wait at home for called or texted reply.
Public Display
Nothing could make a guy or girl feel more special than knowing that someone went to a lot of trouble planning to take them out for a fun evening. So, what could be more endearing than seeing a walking billboard of his/her Promposal coming towards them after 3rd period Geometry? Or how about being sent on a scavenger hunt through school to find clues of who your secret prom date hopeful might be? A tried and true favorite that has yielded many popular results is the classic lunchroom serenade.
